Bullies

I went to the store today and was shocked with what I saw. As I was getting out of the car, I witnessed a woman being yelled at for not returning her shopping cart. Seriously?! It was cold and rainy, it looked like she had a toddler and a baby in her van and the nearest cart corral wasn't that close. So she did what most other people would do and left it nearby. It wasn't taking up a parking space and it looked like she made sure that there was no danger of it rolling into a car.

This guy was yelling at her and berating her, calling her fat and lazy, commenting on her lack of parenting skills etc. The woman seemed completely dumbfounded. She looked like she was on the verge of tears.

I couldn't stand it. I had to say something, "I can't believe you. Instead of offering to help, you stand here screaming at her, insulting her. For what? A shopping cart?! You had the chance to brighten a dreary day, but instead you just darkened it. If you have nothing nice to say, keep it to yourself."

I think I surprised him. In all honesty, I completely shocked myself. I was literally shaking after that encounter…I still can't believe it. Sigh. What is wrong with some people? Why do they think it's okay to treat others this way?
